This week has been long and tough but it's all well worth it. All work and no play leaves a boring Mylika. I am blessed to be spending an evening with my family celebrating my parents 33rd Anniversary.  I will enjoy the night filled with suprises we have for them....

Someone asked me today how I manage all that I have to do.  This question is not something I focus on nor one I could easily answer.  An afterthought - it's just my life. In fact, if I begin thinking about my several responsibilities, tasks and etc., I would likely get discouraged from my goals and loose sight of what's most important to me.  This in large part is to be a role model for my son and help him to achieve his ...

Law School is an investment. Some things cannot be put on hold but others can be quickly dispelled.  Take a few moments to carve off the excess weight to maneuver through law school with the basic essentials.  Once you’ve mastered the basics, the gradually add to it. Maximize on your return....

I made it to the weekend!  So the big news of the week? As of about 5:30pm yesterday (Friday), all of the first year grades were posted. It was a frustrating few weeks having to wait for them, and while I can’t speak for all of the 1L’s, for me it feels like a weight has been lifted. Cliché, yes…but so true. (Maybe that’s just because I ended up doing really well on the exam that I was honestly convinced would destroy my 1L GPA…)  I c...

Reviewing notes after each class and start outlining early. Part of the law school adjustment is learning what study method works best for you.  I found that reviewing notes after class for a few minutes helps me better understand the concepts.  More recently I found that I should focus on one class per study session.  This way, I am learning the material in manageable clusters and don’t get overwhelmed with all that I have to do....

Reflect constantly.  All things happen for a reason and nothing happens by chance.  I live my life with no regrets and am constantly working to become the person that God has predestined me to be.  This requires constant self-reflection. Through good times, great sacrifice and much tragedy I have come to enjoy each moment in life and have learned from life experiences.  Sometimes I calm myself fro...

Fun filled weekend with law books.  Most of my time is accounted for during the week, so the weekends are reserved for studying.  There is not much time really to do anything else.  But, sometimes you have to break with tradition.  Today I will be hitting the books mostly all day but will reserve some R&R and pamper myself a bit.  I will also find some enjoyment in sho...

Greetings from Room 244!  Today started off a bit disappointing because my Contracts professor was going to the same funeral as my ALTA professor, so we had a shortened class and did not get back our exams. It was pretty frustrating.  On the plus side, we only had an hour of class...and then I went out to lunch with some friends from another section. Now, I have an hour and a half until my St. Thomas More Society meeting and I am tryi...

Today was a pretty decent day.  I didn’t have class until noon, so I was able to sleep in, pick up some Panera on my way to school and then do some reading before Core Concepts. Between classes, I tried to get a financial aid problem resolved (the person I need to talk to should be in tomorrow; it’s really convenient to have our own financial aid office on the law campus, but in the first couple weeks of school, it gets pretty busy with eve...

Set aside family time. Friday is the best!  It’s a privilege to go straight home after work.  After a long week of work, and school I am exhausted.  Today is my only real down time.  Sometimes I wish I had more energy on Friday to get some homework done.  But, I don't.  So, I take advantage of being home and enjoy some family time.  The transition from "normal life" to that of a law student can affect your ent...
