Today was a crazy sort of day.
I must confess, despite my best efforts (well, maybe not…), my summary and externship paper didn’t get completed on Friday. My summary was turned in early on Sunday (it would have been Saturday, but it was a partner assignment, so we needed to make sure we were both in agreement before we submitted it), and my externship paper was submitted this afternoon.
I got up and out early this morning, getting to school at 10am before my last advanced advocacy class at noon. I was able to get my paper finished up just in time for class. With it being our last class of the semester, and the deadline for our briefs quickly approaching, we had the opportunity to do a bit of practice in oral argument. We each went up for around 3-5 minutes and presented a little bit of our argument, and Professor Streicher would then interrupt and challenge us with questions. Considering the fact that our arguments are all about half written, and we weren’t given time to prepare, it was a pretty unnerving experience. That being said, it was a great opportunity for us to think about arguments we may not have previously considered, get some ideas of how our classmates responded to certain challenges, and, most importantly, showed us that we really have a better handle on this topic than we initially thought.
After that, I stuck around school and did some catch-up work, and some socializing, waiting for a special speaker presentation. I got to see Michael Collins, an author and “ultra marathoner.” He has the most remarkable stories, and it was definitely a great motivation going into final exams season. His website is http://www.michaelcollinsauthor.net/ if you are interested in checking it out.
Now, I am home making some dinner and then it’s back to reading for class tomorrow. My last final exam is a month from yesterday…yikes!
