This past week was completely insane. I’m having a hard time even remembering everything that occurred. I’ll mention a couple of highlights. On Thursday, there was a Symposium on Bullying with 3 excellent speakers who did a great job addressing the recent escalation in bullying related suicides. Although it is difficult to squeeze in these sorts of extra events, they’re usually exceptional and worthwhile, so I do my best to fit in as many as possible.
Also on Thursday we had a fundraiser at Jacoby’s, a bar downtown, for the Community Outreach Committee. We’re trying to raise money to provide 10,000 meals for those in poverty by the end of the school year through an international organization where 2/3 will go to a country in need around the world and 1/3 stays to serve those in your community. It is a great cause, but will require plenty of fundraising events to reach our goal!
The past two weeks I was getting no more than 4 hours of sleep a night. It really doesn’t impact you when each day you’re filling up 20 hours….at least not right away. When you’re so busy and running from here to there all day, you don’t have time to think about being tired; in fact, the craziness gives me an adrenaline rush. Yesterday, however, that all changed. The first half of the day at work, I actually felt as though I had taken a sleeping pill. By mid day I had picked myself up and found a second wind of energy to get me through the work day. After work, I went out to dinner for sushi and if I didn’t know any better I would have guessed someone had slipped booze into my drink (which was water). I was literally so tired I felt drunk! When I eventually made it to my bed, I slept hard…so hard that I overslept this morning and now I feel guilty for wasting away my morning! Now I have to start the sleep deprivation cycle all over again…except this time I don’t get to catch up on my sleep until after finals, which is December 14th. It’s just like taking on a really hard work out…just a month long one; I’ve got this!
