Don’t you hate those Sundays where you think to yourself “I can’t wait for the weekend”? Yeah, this is one of those days; I feel like I never quite got my weekend.
My big task for the weekend is doing research to come up with a topic for my law review piece. Sounds easy enough, right? Not really…I’m basically supposed to come up with a novel, legal question (which I kind of have to have done by 6pm tonight…), and then I will end up taking enacted law, cases, and other sources, to come up with some sort of stance on the issue. It’s been a lot of work already, and I don’t even know what I’m writing about yet! The nice thing about this has been that I get to choose whatever topic I would like, so I have gotten to delve into some areas of the law that really interest me. (Basically, it would be SO much easier if someone would just tell me what to write about…but I’m sure this is more interesting. It’s a trade-off.)
After I get my topic together, I have some work to do for my advanced advocacy class. Last week, we took a legal question for a case that’s before the Supreme Court, and we did research on the related law. Then, for this upcoming week, we have to take our “law outline” and beef it up with facts from our case. For tomorrow’s class, we just need to have some materials together so that we can discuss it intelligently, and then we will submit our outlines on Sunday for an actual grade…yikes!
This upcoming week looks quite busy, as does next weekend. I keep waiting to hit that “burn out” point, but so far I’ve been doing okay. Law school is like a marathon, and I have been running a very strenuous pace to keep up…I just have to hope that I can keep it going.
