Hello all, I hope everyone had a nice holiday weekend. Mine was pretty uneventful…barbeque with friends, trip to the lake, and babysitting. Not bad.
Last week was a pretty cool week at my externship. On Thursday, I went to Hamtramck to observe a hearing for the public integrity case I was working on. It was the first time I got to do the leg work on a case and then see how it played out in court, so it felt very exciting. After the hearing (which went really well), the attorney I was working with introduced me to the judge and told him about all of the work I had done on the case. I think that was my high point of my externship experience so far; it felt so rewarding!
This week has been pretty interesting so far; today I got to start looking at a new case that promises to be a fair amount of work, and it looks as though I’m going to be getting some big kid type assignments related to it. It’s always a treat when I get to see my first year of law school pay off...
At the moment, I’m wasting time at school. I was done with my work at the prosecutor’s office at 3:30, and then I have a “getting to know you” event downtown for Moot Court at 8; although it’s tempting to go home, it’s really not worth the extra hour of driving it would cost me. It’s not like I don’t have a laundry list of stuff that I can accomplish while I’m here…my big complaint is that it is raining so much that even my umbrella can’t protect me! I wanted to get some dinner, but that is just going to have to wait until such time that I can walk outside without getting struck by lightning…
Tomorrow, I will be volunteering at the new student “Welcome Day” event. Hopefully I will get to meet some of you there!
