April 29th, 2010
Well, I have two finals down and only one more to go.

Right now, I find myself in the eye of the storm. I had a final exam
on Tuesday, an externship meeting (basically about the requirements for getting course credit, and how to get the most out of our experience) and plenty of studying yesterday, and then a final again today. I’m so physically and mentally (and emotionally at this point…) drained. I have decided that no real studying will take place today, so that I can just give myself a chance to catch up with life. I’m actually pretty excited by how relaxed the rest of the semester is…after today, I have four full days that I can spend studying for civil procedure. I’m definitely going to be putting in a lot of time to prepare for this exam; it was my worst subject last semester.

My property exam was the only one this semester that was closed-book; for contracts and civil procedure we are permitted to use any written materials. It’s quite different preparing for open-book exams; I actually think it is a better learning process. (Although I certainly understand why there are closed-book exams…you don’t get a book or notes on the Bar exam.) Instead of making flash cards and memorizing sets of facts like I did for property, to prepare for contracts I got together with three friends, we went point-by-point through a course outline and discussed the issues. (We spent six straight hours yesterday studying in a room with no windows…) I then indexed and tabbed my notes so that everything was very accessible and I wouldn’t have to waste time looking stuff up. Wasting time isn’t as big of a deal with contracts, but it is especially challenging for civil procedure where we only have two hours to finish (versus the three we had for property and contracts). I know two hours sounds like a lot of
time, but all I can remember from last semester’s exam is a feeling of pure panic and barely finishing.

Less than a week now until I am done for the YEAR. I’m getting pretty excited for my summer; I have a couple weeks off, then I have a week of vacation, and then I will have my externship for the rest of the summer.

I’m thinking this is going to be an “early to bed” sort of day…
