It’s election day…again. Today is the SBA class election where we vote for our class officers. I daresay, as a current 1L, this election is more exciting to me because I actually know many of the candidates. I have to say, I will be happy when the whole election process is over; I can’t stand flyers, and pretty much all of the hallway window space is covered with them.

This week is turning out to be a weird week. Yesterday was supposed to be a long day…but I ended up with a cancelled class and a cancelled client counseling simulation, so I ended up with quite a bit of free time. I went to my USCG Auxiliary meeting last night; I’m definitely hoping I will be able to devote more time to the Auxiliary after school is out for summer. (My plan is to do some additional training this summer so that I will qualify to do safety inspections.) 

Today, we have Contracts 9am-10:30am, a three hour break, and then our CivPro review from 1:30-2:30p. Perhaps you noticed something missing from my Tuesday schedule…that’s right, no more ALTA! (I submitted my final assignment around 10pm Saturday. It was pretty satisfying.) I’m not babysitting this afternoon, which means that I have the whole afternoon free. Well, free for homework…but you get the idea. 

As I mentioned last week, applications and tryouts for the Moot Court Board of Advocates are in progress. Moot Court and Law Review are co-curricular activities that you are free to try out for, starting your second year. Moot Court tryouts have the unfortunate timing of being right at the end of the semester, and the Law Review write-on competition is a couple weeks after classes end. For Moot Court applications, we were expected to submit a writing sample, and from there, you could be invited for an oral argument tryout. They selected sixty nine of us for round two tryouts. My oral argument is tomorrow; which means that I need to dig through my G. Mennen Williams moot court stuff and refresh my memory of the facts and arguments. Like I said, not really a free afternoon…

Meagan is a May 2012 graduate of UDM Law. She was admitted to the Michigan Bar in November, and she recently joined the Grand Traverse County Prosecutor’s Office as an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney.

During law school, Meagan was active around the School of Law as the Law Review's Executive Editor of Outside Articles and the Vice-President of the St. Thomas More Society. She participated in the Criminal Trial Clinic, and took advantage of two internships with the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office and a summer internship with Judge Stephen Murphy of the Eastern District of Michigan.

In her free time, Meagan also serves as a member of the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary, enjoys tap dancing, and can't resist reading a good book.
