Halfway through the week!

This morning, despite the bitter cold, was so nice…I got to sleep in!

We just finished our core concepts class (and we even finished early!) where we discussed negotiation. We are talking about the different interests in negotiation, a bit about the ethical obligations involved and that sort of thing. Although some of it seems like common sense, the class really seems to be teaching useful things. There’s so much more to being a lawyer than just knowing the law, and I feel that is really the difference this class seeks to address.

Now, we have an hour break before our property class (during which a bunch of us are just chilling in the classroom…we’re in the same room for property, and I’m in the same seat). Today we are finished at 4pm and then from 4:30-5, I have a mock interview set up by the career services office. The CSO offers this mock interview program for 1Ls where we read a bit about a hypothetical law firm and then spend 20 minutes interviewing for a hypothetical position. The remaining 10 minutes is spent receiving feedback on our interviewing skills. I’ve interviewed for a couple jobs before, but nothing terribly ambitious. I’m hoping this will be a good experience for me to sharpen my skills before I start interviewing (hopefully!) for summer externship positions.

After I posted yesterday, I added a visit with my property professor, Prof. Dodge, into my day. Although I did well on that final exam, I was still interested in seeing the actual exam (instead of just the score) to see where I did well, and where I have room for improvement. Previously in my education, I would be the last person to schedule time to meet with my professors, but in law school I have found this to be invaluable.

I still have some notes to take down before property, so I’ll cut this blog short (although, I guess it’s not actually as short as I thought it would be…one of the hazards of being a fast typer…). Please remember to e-mail questions, comments and concerns to me at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. . All of those things you considered asking at a visit day but felt stupid asking, I’m sure I either have the answers or know where to get them.
