I’m starting to feel like I live at school…I just never seem to leave!
In addition to my usual schedule last week, I was also downtown Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. It also feels like every week I add a few hours to my normal “at school” time.
My moot court preparations have been coming together: I almost have both arguments prepared!
My law review comment is taking a bit longer. I had to rework the structure: I just kept adding things in random places, and it was fairly obvious that I didn’t know where I really wanted it to go. Fortunately, I have a wonderful mom who was willing to read through my most recent draft and tell me where things started not to make sense. It definitely helps to have a fresh pair of eyes! Tomorrow, we have a law review meeting, and we will have the chance to work in small groups and basically defend our theses. My advisor, the wonderful Prof. Henning, also agreed to look over my most recent draft, so I’m hoping my comment will come together soon!
Every time I start to feel discouraged by the amount of work I still need to do, I just keep reminding myself that the law is what I want to do. When I came to law school, I decided I was going to commit three years of my life to this adventure, and despite my frequent grumblings, I’ve been loving it. The best advice I can give to prospective law students would be to make sure you’ve got the passion…because some days the work piles up, the hour becomes late, the law is challenging, and passion is the only thing you have left. Make sure you discern carefully, so that when those days come around, that passion will be enough to keep you going.
