November 12th, 2009What a day!  In addition to the normal two classes I had today, I also had a Civil Procedure review session with our TA, West Law certification training, an SBA meeting, and attended a guest speaker from the University Of Notre Dame on the Separation of Church and State which the Federalist Society brought in for us.  For two of our classes, civil procedure and ALTA, we have TAs which hold extra review sessions and o...

November 11th, 2009Today was a very exciting day. My morning started by studying for my Property class with a couple of close friends I met here at UDM.  As I’m sure you’ve seen some of the other 1L bloggers talk about, the Rule Against Perpetuities is giving us quite the challenge.  After studying for a few hours I had to leave my friends to meet with my Applied Legal Theory Analysis (ALTA) professor.  In ALTA (our legal writing ...

November 10th, 2009My day started, as does every other day since I’ve started law school, at 6 am.  When my alarm went off I was completely shocked, it felt as though I had just put my head on the pillow.  A half hour later I am out the door and on my way downtown to school.  I spend my mornings reviewing material for my classes that day just in case I happen to get called on in class. Today was pretty low key, Civil Procedure in t...

November 9th, 2009Outlining my weekend away...On Friday afternoon I was ecstatic for the weekend and here I sit on Sunday evening wondering how that exciting weekend got away from me.  Although I did take Friday evening off from studying, I'm compensating for it as we speak.  It has reached that time in the semester where I've learned we are supposed to have "outlines" in the works for each of our classes.  I started my outlines ab...

March 3rd, 2010Do you ever have those days where you question every decision you’ve ever made? Where you look around and wonder how on earth you ended up there? Yeah, if you answered no, please tell me how you do it!  I think it is probably a result of my search for a summer externship, but over the past couple days, I have really been freaking out about my choice to go to law school as opposed to pursuing other options like grad school or ...

February 26th, 2010Today was museum day. I went to visit a manuscript museum and the Theodore Roosevelt Inaugural National Historic Site.  The manuscript museum was rather a waste of time. It was apparently voted the best non-art museum in Buffalo by some magazine…but I was not impressed. About half of the museum was devoted to the establishment of the Boy Scouts, and the other half had some obscure documents about the Great Depression and ...

February 24th, 2010Greetings from the Buffalo Law Library. I have done it; I have successfully made my way throughout the building without anyone suspecting that I was an imposter. (Mind you, it helped that I visited this school during my decision-making process…)  My philosophy towards law school selection was: a building is a building. I wouldn’t be at UDM if I didn’t honestly believe that. This building is definitely spiffy, but there’s ...

February 23rd, 2010We interrupt this regularly scheduled blog to bring you…spring break!  Yeah, yeah, I know Michigan is coated in several inches of snow and that February really cannot be considered “spring.” We DO finish our finals at the end of April though, so I guess we are at the midway point of the semester…a nice time for a break.  I am posting to you this week from the oh, so tropical location of Buffalo, New York. One of my ...

February 21st, 2010Well, that’s that. I just submitted my final brief for ALTA. The past two months of my life have been spent working on this assignment that culminates in a clicking of the “submit” button…so anticlimactic. Not even a “congratulations Meagan!” from the submission page, just “Your assignment has been submitted.” Oh well, completion of my ALTA assignment officially marks the start of my SPRING BREAK(!), which means ...

February 18th, 2010One day to go…  I was able to get a little bit of my ALTA accomplished last night. I have stuff I want to include in my paper written on random pieces of paper, highlighted in cases and my stack o’ research was incredibly sloppy and nonsensical. I was able to get my thoughts incorporated into the appropriate parts of my paper…now those thoughts just need to actually be written.  I should have plenty of opportun...
