Michael G. Costello began is legal career in 1985 when he joined Plunkett Cooney as an associate. He was elected shareholder in 1990 and specialized in insurance coverage litigation, insurance regulatory matters, errors and omissions claims and employment litigation. He joined Meadowbrook Insurance Group, Inc. in 1993 as Vice President and Assistant General Counsel. He later became Senior Vice President, General Counsel & Secretary of Meadowbrook in 1996. At Meadowbrook, he is responsible for all legal and regulatory affairs of the Company. In addition to his legal responsibilities, he oversees the management of the Company’s Claims Division, as well as, Human Resources, Regulatory Compliance and Corporate Audit Departments.
Mr. Costello graduated from University of Detroit Jesuit High School in 1978. He obtained his undergraduate degree from Marquette University in 1982. He graduated from University of Detroit Mercy School of Law in 1985 and has been a licensed attorney in the state of Michigan for 27 years.
Mr. Costello is a Director of the Insurance Institute of Michigan (IIM) where he also serves on the Executive Committee on the Board of Directors. IIM promotes the Michigan Insurance industry and assists policyholders with insurance related issues. He also serves as President and is a member of the Board of Directors of the Michigan Chapter of the Association of Corporate Counsel Foundation. The Foundation was established to promote the in-house practice of law by providing academic scholarships at 4 Michigan law schools for those students who have excelled in business, corporate and transactional classes. He is a current member of the State Bar of Michigan, Oakland County Bar Association, Federation of Defense and Corporate Counsel and the American Society of Corporate Secretaries. He is a former Director of the Oakland County Bar Foundation and a Past-President and former Director of the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law Alumni Association, as well as the Association of Corporate Counsel of Michigan.
Mike and his wife, Linda, reside in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan and have three children, Ryan, Michael and Kathryn.
