After graduation from the University of Michigan, Ms. Sims taught kindergarten in the Inkster Public School system. She returned to Detroit after earning her J.D. from Vanderbilt to clerk for the Honorable Anna Diggs Taylor, United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan. Following a two-year clerkship, she worked at the University of Michigan Law School in the offices of student services and admissions. She continued in law school academia at Wayne State University Law School as Assistant Dean for Recruitment and Admissions. While at Wayne State, Ms. Sims served as a Trustee for the Women Lawyers Association of Michigan and the Board of Advisors for the American Institute for Paralegal Studies. Ms. Sims left Wayne State to serve as the inaugural Associate Dean for Student Services at North Carolina Central University School of Law in Durham, North Carolina. In this position, she was in charge of Admissions, Career Services, Student Affairs, and Financial Aid. After five years, Ms. Sims returned home to Michigan to join the Career Services team at UDM School of Law as the Employer Outreach Specialist. In 2013, she became the Director of Career Services and Outreach. In that capacity, she helps create programs for the students that lead to employment opportunities, serves as the lead judicial clerkship advisor, and counsels students pursuing public interest careers.
Ms. Sims has served on numerous panels throughout the country and is a member of the State Bar of Michigan; Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated; the Boys and Girls Club of Durham; and Phi Alpha Delta International Legal Fraternity.
