Kimberly Jones joined the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law Office of Admissions and Student Affairs in 2004 after a career as an attorney at Weltman, Weinberg, and Reis Co., LPA. While a law student, Ms. Jones clerked for two of the region’s largest law firms, served as an associate editor of University of Detroit Mercy Law Review in which she published her first article, A Plea for Mandatory Disclosure: Urging Michigan's Legislature to Protect Employees Against Increasing Phenomena of Workplace Violence, and elected Vice-President of the Black Law Student Association.
The most notable of her career accomplishments is that in 2007, Director Jones initiated UDM Law's Office of Multicultural Affairs. One of its primary goals is to increase ethnic and racial minority enrollment at UDM Law and, subsequently, their presence in the practicing bar so that both reflect the community in which the School serves and supports. Since the Office's creation, UDM Law experienced record increases as to underrepresented minority student enrollment. Ms. Jones directs the Special Summer Program, UDM Law's conditional admission program for historically and educationally disadvantaged law school candidates.
In her current role as Director of Admissions, Kimberly Jones manages Admissions Office operations, works closely with faculty and senior administrators to create a diverse and well-credentialed first-year class that meets Dean and the University's Board of Trustees expectations, and counsel prospective students as to whether a legal education is beneficial, appropriate, and prudent considering their long-term goals. Ms. Jones also serves as a Student Affairs counselor for current UDM Law students.
