UDM Law is committed to honoring the School's Jesuit and Mercy traditions of service and to emphasizing law as a service-based profession by helping students explore public service as a viable career path. The CSO offers several resources to highlight the many careers available in the public service sector such as guides and brochures in the Career Resource Library, assistance with coordinating the Student Bar Association's Annual Public Interest Career Fair and Voice for Justice Public Interest Fellowship application process, and sponsorship of students' registration at public interest career conferences. Past CSO public service programs have included Lunch with a Lawyer featuring alumnus Andrew Arena '88, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI's Detroit Division, and Public Interest Week, highlighted by a keynote address from Dean's Advisory Board Member and former Mayor of Detroit, Dennis W. Archer, panel discussions on financing public interest careers and featuring alumni working in public interest fields, and a community service project at Focus Hope in Detroit.
Students interested in learning more about careers in public service should meet with Director Greta Tackebury, the CSO's public interest career advisor.
