Randall Rutkofske is the General Counsel of Detroit Edison and the Associate General Counsel of DTE Energy Company (NYSE: DTE), a diversified energy company involved in the development and management of energy-related businesses and services nationwide. DTE’s largest operating subsidiaries are Detroit Edison and MichCon, which together provide electric and gas services to more than three million residential, business, and industrial customers.
Mr. Rutkofske earned his bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University and his Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Detroit Mercy.
Mr. Rutkofske has been in DTE’s General Counsel Organization (GCO) for over 20 years, providing and coordinating a broad range of legal support for DTE’s Energy Related Businesses. He also leads the enterprise-wide Continuous Improvement, General Liability, Employment, Labor, Legal Investigations, and Administration groups. He has significant experience in legal technology applications, e-discovery, continuous improvement, recruiting and staffing, and financial reporting. Mr. Rutkofske has been involved in establishing a wide range of creative fee arrangements with law firms and has experimented with various law firm compensation and service delivery models across different practice areas aimed at aligning internal and external incentives. He has also led initiatives at DTE which involved developing real time business intelligence capabilities through establishing metrics, data capture, reporting, and analysis.
Mr. Rutkofske spent nearly 10 years providing human resources, labor relations, and financial/business support in various utility leadership roles prior to joining the General Counsel’s Organization. He has been extensively involved in collective bargaining, employment investigations, compliance, and litigation, also.
