Commencement and Reception
Commencement proceedings for the School of Law's Class of 2016 will occur on Friday, May 13, at 5:00 p.m. in Calihan Hall on the McNichols Campus of the University of Detroit Mercy. The jubilee class of 1966 will lead the procession. A light reception will immediately follow the ceremony in the Fitness Center, which is a short walk from Calihan Hall.
The Baccalaureate Mass for the Class of 2016 will take place on Thursday, May 12, at 5:00 p.m. at Saints Peter and Paul Jesuit Church immediately adjacent to the School of Law. This Mass offers a moment of quiet reflection and thanksgiving for students' educational journey at UDM and an opportunity to ask for God's blessing as they begin their legal career. Members of all faiths and traditions are welcomed and encouraged to attend. Graduates, faculty, and administrators should wear their academic regalia and gather by 4:30 p.m. in the first-floor hallway opposite the SBA office. Graduates and guests may park in the Larned and Christ Church parking lots.
McElroy Lecture on Law and Religion
Our annual McElroy Lecture provides a forum for prominent thinkers and leaders to address fundamental issues of law, religion, and society. It seeks to educate students, legal professionals, and the public on a variety of questions related to moral philosophy, freedom of conscience, the interaction of legal and religious institutions, and the role of religion in public life. This year's lecturer is Professor Kent Greenawalt of Columbia Law School. The lecture will be held on Wednesday, March 16, from 5:00 – 6:00 p.m. in room 226 of the School of Law, followed by a complimentary reception in the atrium. Complimentary parking will be available in the Blue Cross Blue Shield of MI parking garage nearby at 611 Congress Street.

Reunion for All Law Alumni
Detroit Mercy Law's annual Reunion will be held on Saturday, October 24, from 7:00 - 11:00 p.m. at the School's Riverfront Campus. As part of the festivities, we will celebrate the the 50th anniversary of our clinical program; selection of Hon. Anthony J. Fiorella, Jr. as Detroit Mercy Law's 2015 Alumni Award recipient and Richard T. Krisciunas as the 2015 Time and Talent Award recipient; and the special anniversaries of the classes of 1965, 1990, and 2005. The Reunion is for all Detroit Mercy Law alumni. UDM's 103rd Annual Red Mass and Renewal of the Lawyer's Oath of Commitment will be held at Ss. Peter and Paul Jesuit Church beginning at 12:00 p.m., followed by a complimentary luncheon in the atrium of the School of Law. Red Mass is an occasion for judges, lawyers, civic leaders, faculty, staff, and law students of all faiths to pray together at the beginning of the new judicial term, asking God to bless, strengthen, and enlighten us, so that in cooperation and mutual trust we may effectively achieve justice for all. The Most Reverend George V. Murry, S.J., Ph.D., Bishop of the Diocese of Youngstown, Ohio, will celebrate the Mass. Hon. Patrick J. The Career Services Office in partnership with the Externship Program and SBA Public Interest Committee are pleased to present the Annual Public Interest Fair. Meet representatives of local, state, national, and international government, public service, and non-profit organizations in a table talk format. Mock Interview Program with the Detroit Metropolitan Bar Association Barristers
Before you attend the Public Interest Career Fair or participate in Spring OCI, put your interviewing skills to the test with a member of the Detroit Metropolitan Bar Association. Interviews will take place in 30-minute increments from 12:30-2:00 p.m. and 4:00-6:00 p.m. Advance registration is required. Interview times will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis.

Join UDM Law alumni for first-hand tips on navigating the job search process, including how to tailor your resume and prepare for an interview in various practice settings, including public interest, judicial clerkships, and small firms. Professionalism in Action with the State Bar of Michigan
This year's Professionalism in Action program, presented by UDM Law in partnership with the State Bar of Michigan, will be held Friday, January 9, 2015 beginning at 5 p.m. in Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Small group discussion sessions will take place in classrooms on the law school's campus, with a reception immediately following in the Atrium. UDM Law is pleased to announce that Thomas Rombach, President of the State Bar of Michigan, will address the 1L class and offer remarks on behalf of the State Bar. The program facilitator is UDM Law Professor Larry Dubin. Professionalism in Action pairs prominent lawyers and judges with incoming law students in small groups to discuss the importance of civility and work through a series of ethical and professionalism hypotheticals. This important continuing orientation program provides an opportunity for interaction between first-year law students and veteran lawyers and judges.
Mentor Jet: Taking Networking to New Heights
UDM Law in partnership with the National Association of Women Judges, the Detroit Metropolitan Bar Association, and the Women Lawyers Association of Michigan-Wayne Region present Mentor Jet: Taking Networking to New Heights. Meet judges and lawyers, and possibly gain a mentor in a fun, "speed-networking" format. A reception will follow the program. Advance registration is strongly recommended as space is limited.
