Meet the Judges Reception
Meet judges of the federal and state courts during a casual reception in the Detroit Mercy Law atrium on Tuesday, October 11. The schedule for the evening is: registration from 5:00 - 6:00 p.m.; welcome remarks 6:00 - 6:10 p.m.; group photo 6:10 - 6:15 p.m.; network and meet the judges 6:15 - 7:30 p.m. Detroit Mercy Law is co-sponsoring this event with the Catholic Lawyers Society of Detroit; Incorporated Society of Irish American Lawyers; and the Polish American Lawyers Society. Detroit Mercy Law will host a Golf Outing on September 30 at The Inn at St. John's in Plymouth, with a shotgun start at 12:00 p.m. followed by dinner and an awards ceremony at 6:00 p.m., where we will honor Mark Wisniewski ('90) with the Time & Talent Award and Macie Tuiasosopo ('13) with the Rising Star Award. Reception at the State Bar of MI Annual Meeting in Grand Rapids
Dean Phyllis L. Crocker will host a cocktail reception for Detroit Mercy Law alumni, State Bar dignitaries, members of the judiciary, faculty, and students at the Annual Meeting of the State Bar of Michigan at the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel in Grand Rapids on September 22 from 4:30 – 6:00 p.m. She will make remarks at 5:15 p.m. Event Details>>
Red Mass 2016
Detroit Mercy Law will host its 104th annual Red Mass on Tuesday, September 20, at noon at Ss. Peter & Paul Jesuit Church, followed by a complimentary luncheon in the atrium. Rev. Fred Kammer, S.J., J.D., will celebrate the Mass. Father Kammer is a Jesuit priest, an attorney, and a member of the Southern Province of the Jesuits. He has been Director of the Jesuit Social Research Institute since March of 2009. Hon. Victoria Roberts of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan will lead the Renewal of the Lawyer's Oath of Commitment. Red Mass is an opportunity for law students, judges, lawyers, civic leaders, faculty, staff, and administrators of all faiths to come together and celebrate the beginning of the new judicial term and academic year. Jump Start Your Legal Education - Part Two
During the second day of the workshop, students will have the opportunity to informally meet and speak with professors over dinner provided by Detroit Mercy. After dinner, students will learn more about the various offices and departments of Detroit Mercy Law through a building-wide scavenger hunt. The evening will end with a class from Associate Professors, Julia Belian and Karen Henning where you will continue to work on the relationship between statutory language and cases. You will examine two cases where you will learn to interpret, synthesize and understand critical statutory interpretation. Students will need to read the cases given at the end of the July 19 class in preparation for this class. RSVP today!
Jump Start Your Legal Education - Part One
Jump Start is a two day workshop for admitted students designed to provide them with the opportunity to practice legal skills without the pressure of a “real” class. On Tuesday, Students will have the opportunity to meet one another over dinner, then listen to a panel of recent Detroit Mercy Law graduates and ask them questions about their experiences at Detroit Mercy Law and their legal careers. The evening will end with a class from Associate Professors Karen Henning and Julia Belian on how to read a statute and identify the critical elements in addressing client’s issues. RSVP today!
Book Awards Ceremony & Reception
Detroit Mercy Law will host its annual Book Awards ceremony on March 1, 2016 at 5:00pm at Ss. Peter & Paul Jesuit Church, followed by a celebratory reception in the atrium. Business attire is required. The Book Awards celebrate outstanding academic and service achievement. Detroit Mercy Law presents the Book Awards to students who have ranked first in a law school course in the preceding year or who have provided exceptional service to the school. Students on the Dean’s Honor List are also acknowledged.

Annual Public Interest Career Fair
The Career Services Office in partnership with the Externship Program and SBA Public Interest Committee are pleased to present the Annual Public Interest Fair. Meet representatives of local, state, national, and international government, public service, and non-profit organizations in a table talk format. Bring copies of your resume (that comply with the samples in the Career Planning Manual). No advance student registration is required. Lunch will be provided. Mock Interview Program with the Detroit Metropolitan Bar Association Barristers
Before you attend the Public Interest Career Fair or participate in Spring OCI, put your interviewing skills to the test with a member of the Detroit Metropolitan Bar Association. Interviews will take place in 30-minute increments from 12:30-2:00 p.m. and 4:00-6:00 p.m. Advance registration is required. Interview times will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis.

Join UDM Law alumni for first-hand tips on navigating the job search process, including how to tailor your resume and prepare for an interview in various practice settings, including public interest, judicial clerkships, and small firms. Professionalism in Action with the State Bar of Michigan
This year's Professionalism in Action program, presented by UDM Law in partnership with the State Bar of Michigan, will be held Friday, January 9, 2015 beginning at 5 p.m. in Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Small group discussion sessions will take place in classrooms on the law school's campus, with a reception immediately following in the Atrium. UDM Law is pleased to announce that Thomas Rombach, President of the State Bar of Michigan, will address the 1L class and offer remarks on behalf of the State Bar. The program facilitator is UDM Law Professor Larry Dubin. Professionalism in Action pairs prominent lawyers and judges with incoming law students in small groups to discuss the importance of civility and work through a series of ethical and professionalism hypotheticals. This important continuing orientation program provides an opportunity for interaction between first-year law students and veteran lawyers and judges.
Mentor Jet: Taking Networking to New Heights
UDM Law in partnership with the National Association of Women Judges, the Detroit Metropolitan Bar Association, and the Women Lawyers Association of Michigan-Wayne Region present Mentor Jet: Taking Networking to New Heights. Meet judges and lawyers, and possibly gain a mentor in a fun, "speed-networking" format. A reception will follow the program. Advance registration is strongly recommended as space is limited.
