Selected Topics in Family Law : Seminar on Child Abuse and Neglect (4381)

This seminar is designed to address child abuse and neglect issues from an interdisciplinary vantage point. To that end, it is expected that professionals from different disciplines will participate. The seminar will consider applicable state and federal law, litigation techniques, the ethical dilemma, and various psycho-social and medical issues. The central theme of the seminar is the expansion of the possibilities of reconciliation of families with their children when compatible with the safety of the children. Each student will produce a publishable paper of not less than 30 pages on a subject to be approved by the instructor. Subjects may include traditional legal research, but also empirical investigation of legal, medical, psychological, or sociological areas. Students will have an opportunity to observe and advice with respect to ongoing litigation.
