I am pleased to announce that Professor Troy L. Harris, JD, PhD, has agreed to serve as Interim Dean for the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law effective August 1, 2013.

A UDM Law faculty member since 2010, Professor Harris joined the School of Law as a visiting assistant professor and became assistant professor in May 2011. At the School of Law, he teaches International Commercial Arbitration, Sales, Contracts, and Construction Law. Prior to joining UDM, he practiced international arbitration and construction law with the Atlanta office of King & Spalding for more than a decade. Professor Harris previously taught at Cornell Law School, Emory Law School, and the College of Management of the Georgia Institute of Technology.

A Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and an elected member of the Executive Committee of its North American Branch, he serves on the Commercial Panel of Arbitrators of the American Arbitration Association, the Approved Faculty List for the Chartered Institute, and the roster of the United States Department of State's Fulbright Specialist Program in the area of international arbitration.

I look forward to working with the School of Law faculty, administrators and staff and Professor Harris as Interim Dean as they move forward on various initiatives. The School of Law Search Committee, chaired by Professor Steve Vogel, will continue seeking candidates for the position of Dean at the School.

We are grateful to Lloyd Semple for his leadership and service, who stepped down as Dean effective June 30, 2013, but agreed to serve as Acting Dean until Professor Harris begins serving in his role of Interim Dean.

Please join me in welcoming Professor Harris in his new role at the UDM School of Law.

Sincerely,

Pamela Zarkowski, JD, MPH
Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs
