Michelle Kennedy, from Toronto, Ontario Canada, is the 2007-08 Executive Board Secretary of the UDM Student Bar Association (SBA). Michelle has actively served as a mentor to both incoming Joint Degree students and UDM Law Students.
Currently seeking Michigan court certification as a mediator, she is volunteering at the Oakland Mediation Center facilitating dialogue and self-directed resolution for parties involved in civil litigation matters.
Before attending law school, Ms. Kennedy had a varied career including: health care administration and human resources; sales, marketing and wedding/party planning for a harbor boat charter boat company; and a coordinator of complaints, investigations and hearings, quality assurance coordinator and registrar/CAO of one of Ontario’s 21 health regulatory bodies. Michelle has been very active in municipal, provincial and federal politics.
On graduation, Ms. Kennedy intends to seek admission to both the Ontario and Michigan Bars. As part of the Ontario Bar admission process, Michelle will be completing the requisite supervised practice component with the firm of Miller, Canfield, Paddock and Stone, PLC, in their offices in Windsor, Ontario, Canada.
Her areas of legal interest include civil litigation, tax and corporate/commercial law.
On being asked her thoughts about graduation, Michelle said:
The UDM law school experience has been extraordinarily rewarding and challenging. The collegial atmosphere of the school is refreshing and highly effective. The hands on experience I have enjoyed through the legal research, analysis and writing program and through other UDM initiatives/courses, such as advanced advocacy, pre-trial civil litigation practice and an externship with the 3rd Circuit Court of Michigan, have been invaluable in providing real and usable experience to enhance my appreciation of the legal profession and my own expertise in the future practice of law
