Something I love about UDM Law is the strong sense of tradition, much of which stems from the school's Jesuit roots.

One nice opportunity that is available to the students who choose to take advantage of it is the Baccalaureate Mass. The mass is held at the church adjoining the law school, and takes place the night before graduation. It's an optional part of the graduation festivities, but is one that many students enjoy taking part in. 

Tonight was my class's Baccalaureate Mass. We had a wonderful Jesuit priest from the main campus say mass, and he spoke about the value of our legal education, asking us always to keep in mind the reason why we chose to come to law school to begin with. I think so often, over these past three years, we have gotten caught up in learning the law, and looking for jobs, that we forgot the true impact our new lawyering skills have in peoples' lives. Something that really hit home with me was the idea that lawyers are there during some of the most difficult times in peoples' lives, and the priest did a great job of impressing upon us the importance of taking that role seriously. What a great message to send us off with!

The Baccalaureate Mass was our first time wearing our caps and gowns, and I think the excitement for graduation really started to sink in for many of us. Graduation was always this looming event on the horizon for so long, and yet, here it is!

Meagan is a May 2012 graduate of UDM Law. She was admitted to the Michigan Bar in November, and she recently joined the Grand Traverse County Prosecutor’s Office as an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney.

During law school, Meagan was active around the School of Law as the Law Review's Executive Editor of Outside Articles and the Vice-President of the St. Thomas More Society. She participated in the Criminal Trial Clinic, and took advantage of two internships with the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office and a summer internship with Judge Stephen Murphy of the Eastern District of Michigan.

In her free time, Meagan also serves as a member of the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary, enjoys tap dancing, and can't resist reading a good book.
