Greetings from the Buffalo Law Library. I have done it; I have successfully made my way throughout the building without anyone suspecting that I was an imposter. (Mind you, it helped that I visited this school during my decision-making process…)

My philosophy towards law school selection was: a building is a building. I wouldn’t be at UDM if I didn’t honestly believe that. This building is definitely spiffy, but there’s just so much more that you should look for when you are visiting a school.

I think there is definitely something to be said for visiting a school during the school day and just getting a feel for the overall atmosphere of the school. I think you will be surprised at how different schools really can be. Based on my observations of UB Law, this certainly seems to be a great place for people who are really into studying and having a quiet place to work. I am sure there are plenty of students here who are very pleased with their choice of school, but I suspect that I would not be happy as a student here. I don’t know that I have ever been in such a crowded, yet silent building. I’m on the second floor of their open-atrium library…and I don’t know that I’ve yet heard anyone say anything. I guess it’s just very different from the school I’m used to, where people generally study together in the library and gossip around the laptop printer, eat and work together in the cafeteria and linger around in the hallways or classrooms to chat.

To make a long story short, unless you have already decided on a law school to call home for the next 3+ years, I highly recommend a weekday visit. There’s really no better way to find out these sorts of things.

Anyhow, apparently the thing to do in a law library is to open the books and get highlighting…I think I can manage that…
