I’ve been meaning to write an entry about all of those “books to read before law school”.

I remember when I went to my first open house for law school; I had asked which books were the best to read beforehand.  The response I got was “don’t bother, they aren’t really helpful… just spend your summer relaxing.” Well, of course me being the overambitious/anxious person that I am completely ignored what this person told me and had my mother buy me 12 of these books as Christmas presents.

The day after my undergraduate graduation I cracked open the first of these books; and continued to read until I had finished all 12. I found each one fascinating, interesting, and building up more excitement about starting law school that fall.  I don’t regret reading these books because I did find them entertaining but what that law student or professor or whoever she was is the truth: those books do not give you a “one up” when you start; they don’t actually help with anything at all. So, the bottom line is: If you’re really interested then go for it…read your heart out. If you want to just read one or two, you can email me for recommendations or any questions at  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You won’t be missing out on anything important or falling behind your classmates- spend your summer doing what you love to do, whatever that may be.
