Blog Entry 27

This morning I was awoken by a phone call a half hour before my alarm was supposed to go off. It was my boyfriend telling me I should leave early because he was on the expressway in standstill traffic and it was a snowy mess. I had a doctor’s appointment to get to before heading to school; so I quickly dragged myself out of bed and pulled myself together.
It took me 1.5 hours to get to my doctor’s appointment which usually takes 20 minutes. When I arrived I found a sign on the door saying there had been a family emergency and all appointments for the day were canceled; fantastic! By the time I got to school I had been in the car for 2 hours and ready to go insane.
I had signed up for lunch with a lawyer which was a nice way to make up for my not so great start of a day. I’d say this lunch was the best one yet, and if I haven’t said it yet I’ll say it now: Be sure to attend a lunch with a lawyer during your first year at UDM. Usually after lunch you can personally introduce yourself to the lawyers but every single time I have to leave five minutes early because I have a class starting…it never fails.
Today was Civil Procedure first, then a break which is not long enough to get started on any substantive work but too long to just go to the bathroom and head over to the classroom. What to do, what to do. No need to worry, my time was filled with two fellow 1Ls (and close friends of mine) discussing a problem and figuring out what they were going to do about it. Luckily for them Dean Semple and Dean Caprio were in the halls and were able to have an impromptu meeting with them both. One thing I love about this school, everyone is extremely accessible and friendly. At my undergrad school I didn’t even know what any of the Deans looked like!
Next thing I knew it was time for Contracts to start. The worst part of this semester: we have a really late start on Mondays and our class doesn’t get out until after 6 pm. This is my first day experiencing this and I already hate it. I got home at 7, ate dinner, did a little homework, and now I’m about to go to the gym. I should be staying home and doing more research for ALTA, but my New Year Resolution is to find more time for the gym..and I’m keeping to it! (It looks like sleep is what will be suffering as a result L).
