One of the most gratifying days in law school was today.
School was fulfilling, not because something out of the ordinary happened but because I pushed through to make it a great day. Earlier today, I was not feeling so great –actually, I still don’t feel my best. When I was at work I was debating on attending class. I really don’t like to miss class because so much information is covered in a single session. On the other hand my woozy stomach and feverish temper made me reluctant to travel downtown Detroit to class. I left work dreading having to spend 4 more hours in school when all I really wanted to do was go home, curl up in my bed and rest. The saying is true – “there’s no rest for the weary”. So, despite my feeling, I got in my car and headed downtown for class. In the midst of a traffic jam, I made the affirmation that today was going to be a good day and that I was going to participate and do well. That’s exactly what happened. I forgot about my pain and treated class like my client. Remembering, that when I am in practice, my clients won’t care whether I have a belly ache or other minor pains. But, they will expect me (regardless of how I feel) to show up and do a good job. I find happiness in knowing that forging ahead turned my “bad” day into one most fulfilling.
Sometimes you have to push past pain to find enjoyment in what you do.
