Pre-Trial Litigation Skills (2380)
Using a realistic sexual harassment case study, students in this course will be divided into opposing law firms to litigate against one another. The class will learn to handle pretrial litigation from new client intake, establishment of a solid attorney-client relationship and development of strategy to achieve client goals. We will cover the most common aspects of the discovery process which includes taking and defending depositions with live witnesses. Students will learn to prepare for negotiations strategically, and attempt to negotiate the settlement of their case. The course includes motion practice with oral argument before sitting judges of the United States District Court and conclude with final trial preparation. The class will prepare students to be practice ready litigators and trial lawyers.
