David G. Chardavoyne

After two years as a law clerk in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan, Mr. Chardavoyne entered private practice in Detroit at what is now Bodman, LLP.

In 2001, after leaving Bodman, he began to teach as an adjunct professor at both Wayne State University Law School and the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law.

Mr. Chardavoyne has written extensively in the area of Michigan legal history. His book, A Hanging in Detroit (Wayne State University Press, 2003), about Michigan’s abolition of the death penalty, was named a Michigan Notable Book by the Library of Michigan Foundation. He also contributed a chapter on Michigan’s territorial period to The History of Michigan Law (Ohio University Press, 2006) which was also named a Michigan Notable Book and as well won the Historical Society of Michigan’s State History Award. Mr. Chardavoyne is a frequent contributor to The Court Legacy, the journal of the Historical Society for the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan.

In 2005 he was the principal speaker at the celebration of the bicentennial of the Supreme Court of Michigan.
