As a First-Year Law Student, You'll Have the Opportunity to Secure Hands-On Work Experience

This year, our first year students served clients through the immigration clinic, the criminal expungement clinic, and the Social Security Disability clinic. These experiences distinguish Detroit Mercy Law students on their resumes. This summer, our first year students have exciting legal work lined up. At the Public Interest Fair, first year students met with over twenty employers, like the US Attorney’s Office, and secured internships. First year law students are also working this summer at large law firms, like Jones Day and Bodman, in judicial chambers at the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan, and with legal departments of Detroit-based businesses. The downtown location of Detroit Mercy Law is within walking distance of many of these employers!

We Are Committed to Your Success and to Educating You on Careers and Professionalism

We partner with students, alumni, and employers to facilitate career related education, professional growth, and networks leading to rewarding careers. We are constantly connecting first year students with legal professionals. This year, first year students met judges and attorneys at Mentor Jet, the Bar Association Fair, Lunch with a Lawyer, Professionalism in Action, the Judicial Clerkship Panel, diversity receptions, and more!
