First-year Matriculation Guidelines and Important Deadlines
Fall 2009

June                  Foreign National Students
Foreign national students matriculating at the School of Law must have the correct visa and a current passport to enter the U.S. and to study here.  In June, the School of Law will request foreign national first-year students to submit financial support and citizenship documentation.  For additional information, please contact Stephanie Winbigler (winbigsn@udmercy.edu or 313-596-9841).

August 1st       Official Undergraduate Degree Transcript
The American Bar Association (ABA) requires that all accredited law schools have an official transcript from a first-year student’s undergraduate degree-granting institution before that student begins classes.  The Law Services (LSDAS) transcript evaluation report does not fulfill this ABA requirement.  Please have your undergraduate degree-granting institution send an official transcript that includes the date your degree was granted to the Admissions Office at the School of Law by August 1, 2009.

August 17th     First-year Orientation for Fall 2009
The School of Law has scheduled our mandatory First-year Orientation for the week of August 17, 2009, with classes tentatively scheduled to begin the week of August 24, 2009.  Orientation will include day and evening events for all full-and part-time students.

August 17th     Accommodations
Students with needs for special assistance due to physical or other disabilities on either a temporary or long-term basis should contact Kathleen H. Caprio, Associate Dean (capriok@udmercy.edu or 313-596-0287), prior to Orientation and the start of classes.

August 17th     Disclosure Requirements and Amendments to your Application Due
At the time of your application, you certified that all of the information contained in the application was true and complete.  You also certified that, if any answer or portion of any answer was not true or complete or ceased to be true or complete, you had a continuing obligation to inform the School of Law.  If you failed to disclose information on your application, especially regarding any academic problems, additional schools attended, disciplinary issues, or traffic or criminal charges, you are required to inform the Admissions Office by August 17, 2009.  If necessary, please update your application as soon as possible to preclude any complications with your law school admission and application for admission to state Bar associations.

Correspondence
Please update your contact information--address, phone and e-mail--with your admissions counselor if you change your residence at any time before matriculation.  We look forward to welcoming you to the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law, answering your questions and introducing you to legal education at UDM.
