Beverly and Ohlen Baird

The Project SALUTE mobile veterans clinic (MVC) left Detroit about 11:15 a.m. after WDIV Local 4 finished taking some very nice pictures of the MVC in front of the Renaissance Center with the flags in the background.  As we stopped at a light on Jefferson, a man pulled up next to the MVC, parked his van, and ran over to the passenger side yelling, "Hey, hey I need help.  I need help.  What do I have to do?  Where do I have to go to?"

I unbuckled my seat belt, ran to the back of the MVC and grabbed some business cards.  I handed him the cards.  He was very pleased and smiling from ear to ear.  As the light changed and the cars behind him started beeping, he held up the cards in the air as he walked back to his car.  We could hear him yelling that finally someone was going to help him!  It was amazing to witness how touched this man was by Project SALUTE.

When I visited grandma yesterday, we watched the news and she saw the story of Project SALUTE.   She looked right at me and said, “I know Daddy is standing somewhere saluting that flag on the side of the MVC with a big smile on his face.  He loved the Army and was very proud of being a WWII veteran.”   I told her that we are very honored to be part of such a wonderful project to help veterans.  Just imagine how many lives will be touched through Project SALUTE.
